But first, the participants have to select their wardrobe and be fitted in an ensemble each that showcases their individuality and beauty.

Big On Attitude threw a tea party fitting for the ladies on a Sunday afternoon, a first casual gathering outside of AL 2011. The task of the day was to find a signature outfit that would also be suitable for the theme of the photoshoot.  It was also a perfect time for the women to get to know one another better and what’s better than over tea and cakes and lots of chit-chat!

At first, one could sense the hesitation and also the bewilderment amongst the group trying to grapple with the fashion of the era. For some, it was definitely a step outside of the comfort zone as the fashion essentials featured then may not be part of their everyday wardrobe and it was difficult to envision the entire overall theme.

But the ladies soon warmed up to the concept and started getting into the spirit of things. All of them were good sports, opening up to the ideas and giving them a shot after the initial doubts were eased. Items flew off the racks as they gleefully skipped over to the changing rooms in groups to try the apparel.

As each participant has to be profiled as their unique selves, outfits were not repeated and that added to the challenge of finding that one piece that stood out to each of them.  The ladies took that in stride; they  swapped pieces with one another, gave constructive comments on the ensembles worn, took lots of photos and shared suggestions with each other on how to achieve “the look”.

Next up,  we go into the hustle and bustle of the photoshoot as the ladies get all glammed up in their outfits. Be dazzled by the transformation each of them underwent, as we embark on this journey together with them. The theme came alive bit by bit with every step and all of them embodied the classic, timeless beauty that was of the era.

And there it was, the effort they made to step outside the box and the ability to adapt to changes and new things (a new wardrobe too!) paid off in a wonderful way. Well done, gals!

We grabbed busy mum Angeline, one of the top three Best Dressed Award medal winner of our very first orientation, for a quick 5 minute chat about her own personal take on style and beauty.

And boy, did she rock the LBD (little black dress) number she had on. Yes ma’am, we did notice those luscious legs!

* What’s your personal style like?
I’m rather adventurous when it comes to different styles of outfits, as long as it looks good on me. In particular, I love shorts and mini-skirts because my legs are my assets.

* What’s your greatest indulgence?
I love chunky accessories and items with Swarovski crystal studs.

Here’s our first cover lady Norin with our fast-five interview about our favourite topic: style!  Get to know this sexy glamourzon and one of the top three Best Dressed Award medal winner of our very first orientation (we were all gushing over her very sassy pair of gladiators and that gorgeous shimmering necklace she had on).

* What’s your personal style like?
I like vintage and I also like to look glamorous, so when it comes to fashion I am into anything that allows me to dress to kill, adding a unique touch to it at the same time.

* What’s your greatest indulgence?
Accessories are my greatest indulgence of course! I love my accessories and even have some nice collections.

a) I feel gorgeous when I am…… looking in the mirror and admiring myself from head to toes, telling myself how beautiful and gorgeous I am.  I will not let anyone or anything stop me from being as gorgeous as I could be.

b) True beauty is…… what’s within you: the love, the respect, the attitude you have towards all mankind, animals and the earth.

c) I can’t live without my…… belt as it has become an essential thing for me now, especially to show how curvaceous I am.

It has been a busy week filled with a flurry of activities. And we got photos to prove it!

AL 2011 Participants Getting To Know One Another

The very first briefing for Amazing Lifestyles (AL) 2011 was held at Bunker Bistro Restaurant in Changi. The air was tinged with apprehensive nervousness and happy anticipation of what was to unfold, as our official event management representative Mr Lionel Lim commenced the briefing. Daphne was there to represent us as B.O.A’s coordinator, with our team Koko, Ray and photographer Aaron to assist.

Sponsors The Hair Secrets, Melody Beauty & Image Inc., A Royalty Image and Sweet Beauty Secrets were there to present attractive gifts and loads of treats as part of a large scaled goodie bag especially created for the registrants.

The highlight of the orientation was when Ms Amazing 2010 winner Ms Sharon Lim took to the floor and began to speak from the heart to the women present.  She  amazed all with her insightful and touching account of her own experiences with Miss & Ms Amazing 2010, a plus sized pageant from which AL 2011 was born. Her confidence and poise and her passionate encouragement spurred the ladies on.

Angeline, Lina and Norin were crowned “Best Dressed” for the day and they were bestowed a shiny medal each. We will be having a feature on these ladies to have them share with us their style inspiration.

The excitement about the upcoming photoshoot and fashion fitting grew as surprising details were revealed.  Hint* – we will be delving deep into the past and channeling silver screen sirens and adding a touch of a modern twist to the wardrobe. It’s definitely going to be unique and B.O.A really gave it a lot of thought! We wanted to step out of conventional and have the ladies be out of their usual elements but yet still remain glamorous.

We had a round-table introduction of all the participants and the initial shyness started to melt away, as phone numbers and email addresses were exchanged. Some ladies bonded and stayed behind chatting even when the orientation concluded.

We will be catching up with each and every one of these ladies as the program and workshops progresses to follow up on their own personal tales so stay tuned for that.

Going forward in the coming weeks, these ladies will be busy attending mini events like our B.O.A wardrobe fitting and for the make-over photoshoot and also taking the time to enjoy the pampering treats the sponsors have in store for them.

A Coronation

Ms Sharon Lim, winner of Ms Amazing 2010 has written a heart-felt note to ladies out there about her wonderful experience when she was part of last year’s event.

A loving mum of 3 children and a busy career woman, she has been in the service line for a call centre for nearly 7 years.

* What are the challenges you faced during the event?

All of us are working adults, some are like me, working mummies. So it was really difficult to coordinate and meet for rehearsals and outdoor promotional events. Eventually everything did work out and a lot of the credit goes to our sponsors and trainer. They have put in great effort to make this event a successful one. O

* What is your personal style?

I think I am a modern, trendy working mum. I love dresses and heels, as I feel more feminine and sexy in them. Makeup is a must for me when going out. I love to take time to dress up both for work or even for just a casual outing. It makes me feel confident. I believe in dressing for myself and not for others. I feel it’s the inner person who makes the clothing come alive!

* What is your no-fail beauty tip?

I believe a happy go lucky, joyful and easily satisfied character makes me beautiful. Beauty is not just of a physical form but what really matters is what’s on the inside. I personally think that personal grooming is also a large part of keeping a woman beautiful; chipped nails, underarm hair, messy hair, dirty hands and crumpled clothing are definitely turn-offs for me!

* What is your good-mood booster?

My happy booster is my family. My husband, Victor, is a very important man in my life and he is also one of the winners for the “Husband of the Year” award during our pageant. He is the strong pillar in my life. A husband, a father, a brother and a friend to me. I am extremely proud of my 3 children and they are the best gifts God has blessed me with. They are my happiness, to which nothing can compare. Without them, I think I won’t be the woman I am today. I give thanks to my God who has granted me all these and for which I am truly blessed.

* What is success to you?

Success means to achieve some of my goals and to live my life to the end without regrets. My personal motto is: “Live as you were to die tomorrow, learn as if you were to live forever.” I remembered one of my fellow contestants Linda often saying this to us, “Happiness is a journey and not a destination“. It means alot to me. I totally agree with her as I know as long as we cherish what we have and give thanks for what we have, life will be less pressurizing and you will be feel merrier.

Hi all Amazing Ladies out there,

I am very happy and honored to be able to participate and be part of the first pioneer group of ladies who signed up for Ms/Miss Amazing Pageant 2010. It was definitely an experience and an absolute joy to be with all these amazing ladies for about 7 months, before the grand finale held at DBS Auditorium on the 17th July 2010.

Throughout our 7 months of rehearsals, seminars and many outdoor promotional campaigns, we have built true friendships and much love between us. We truly enjoyed each other’s company and shared our happiness and sadness with one another. Nearly a year has gone by since and I am already back to the workforce. The bonds between us are so strong that we all still reminisce together about the moments passed. I am still missing all the fun, the gossip, the love that we have shared during our rehearsals and the times we got together and prepared for our outdoor shows held at Heeren Shopping Centre, Hougang Point, Bukit Timah Plaza and the fashion show at Far East Plaza.

I still vividly remember the first day back at the office after I have won. My colleagues were there showing me their support, congratulating me and sharing the newspaper clippings of the pageant with me. I felt so proud and definitely flattered as I won Ms Amazing 2010 while I was expecting and I delivered my baby girl one month after the finale. My daughter is my lucky charm during the pageant. As she was a pre-term baby who was born weighing only 780 grams and only 7 months old, she was kept in the ICU/High Dependency Ward for another 5 months. It was a stressful period of my life as I also had to take care of my 2 boys. But I remained optimistic and contented and alot of care and concern poured in from my fellow contestants-turned-friends. They have given me the strength and courage to carry on.

I strongly believe we plus sized ladies can be beautiful, bold and confident. Big definitely does not mean ugly, there is always beauty in everyone. I have always loved to watch all international beauty pageants since young and used to fantasized myself up on the stage representing my country and winning the tiara. It was like a dream come true when I saw the ad one day and God told me to give it a go and fulfill the dream; to show the world how beautiful big girls like me can be. We are beautiful and definitely brainy. In fact, the contestants are all holding high positions in their respective careers or are their own bosses.

Life is short, cherish every opportunity that you have as you only live once. And you know what? I did it!

God has created us as who we are and nobody can take this away from us except God himself. So no human can say negative comments about you as they are human just like you are. Don’t let the negativity from people run you down as you will always remain beautiful in your loved ones eyes’ and the God who has created you.

Miss Amazing 2010 Contestant - Cheong Jiaxin

Big On Attitude touches base with Miss Cheong Jiaxin, about her amazeful life, after being part of Plus Size Pageant Miss/Ms Amazing 2010 as one of the gorgeous contestants.

A highly-motivated young lady, Jiaxin is busy in her many roles – currently a radio presenter, a beauty consultant, a plus size model, a makeup artist and a full time student.

* How has Miss/Ms Amazing 2010 changed your life?

Taking part in the pageant has given me lots of exposure. I have gotten to know many like-minded people during this journey I walked together with them. It is very encouraging be around people who believe in themselves and have high confidence. To see them glow from this is really inspiring. The pageant had definitely given me a boost in my personal outlook on my life and I’m alot more positive now.

Career wise, I’m also more confident in terms of performing and crowd engagement. The training I received and the exposure from publicity during the pageant has helped me in my personal development. I even got to host a radio program!

* What were your favourite moments during the event?

I would have to say forging deep bonds of friendship with women from all walks of life and of all sizes; both slim ladies and plus size ladies. I got to meet other beauty queens who shared with me their valuable experiences.

I also loved having the opportunity to perform as well as being part of the plus size fashion show. Attending publicity events in malls, getting to interact with the crowd, it was just something unforgettable!

* What is your personal style?

I’m definitely casual chic, so I usually prefer to don on non-formal attire. It makes me feel more relaxed!

My favourite wardrobe staples are sundresses, mini-skirts and tank or spaghetti tops, and then topping the outfits off with heels or a pair of pretty sandals. Work wonders for a happy and cheerful day!

* What is your no-fail beauty tip?

Sometimes, it is not what you really like to wear, but what is suitable for you to wear. Always wear something that flatters you – give some styles that you’re not used to a go. Surprises may be waiting for you!

Skincare is very important: with good skin, you glow from within.

* What is your good-mood booster?

I prefer to go for a cup of tea to sort things out if there is alot on my mind. To take a breather, I love to jet-set and travel.

To inspire myself, I would listen to music and watch dramas. To enhance and enrich my life, I would opt for taking up a new course. I’m currently on a professional makeup course and also a pop vocal course.

* What are your future plans for the next 5 years?

I would like to develop my portfolio further in terms of performing, modelling and hosting. I am thinking of conducting makeup and skincare classes and also to be part of women empowering programs, to reach out to more women out there and help them find true confidence.

* If you could invite 3 people to your dinner party (dead or alive), who would they be and why?

1. I would invite a DJ by the name of “Toshi”, he was the one who inspired me to be a DJ.  Thanks to him, I found my passion and am living my dreams.
2. Ms Beverly Tan from TKS & Sons (Amazing Lifestyles 2011 organizer), she was the one who provided the platform for me to realize my potential.
3. Ms Genecia Luo, thanks to her training during pageant, my potential was developed further.
